I bought the small Barbeskew on impulse then wondered if I had made a mistake. Just cooked my first meal on it and all doubts have been removed. It is the best bar-b-q I have had; sausages, beef-burgers and chicken pieces were cooked right through, very moist and not the slightest bit burnt. An excellent design and I hope you sell many more.
Just to let you know I am still absolutely chuffed to bits with my machine and remain your best owner / refer sales man! It is still the no.1 BBQ on the market to provide evenly cooked food.
Hope you are continuing to do well and spring brings you plentiful orders.
hi. just got around to taking the bbq out of the box. very impressed with the quality of materials used …. the product is great.
Just dropping you a line to let you know I received the Barbeskew II and tested it out at the weekend. The results were fantastic and I am absolutely delighted with my purchase.
When we needed to renew our bbq we looked around but could not see anything we liked. We met you at the South of England Show and you explained how simple the barbeskew was to use. My wife was not keen on the conventional ones, so after a good long think about it, we decided to invest in one. It was the best thing we ever did!! The food is cooked to perfection, it never burns like the other ones. Everyone that has come to our bbq all agree its the best they have ever tasted. You just stand there and it turns itself.
Thankyou for persuading us to invest in one.
I would like to say how happy I am with the Barbeskew which I bought three years ago. It has made barbequing a joy ever since and has stood up to some pretty constant use since I got it. I have recommended it to anyone who will listen.
I have been a bbq nut for many years now & have had my own cookery show on Central TV many years ago now. I have just bought the big BBskew charcoal & it is an amazing piece of kit. I had a mechanically minded buddy to help me assemble it(thank God,)I wasn’t very good at Meccano as a lad. The food is the best I have ever tasted owing to the steadily rotating food on either the main rotisserie or the amazing kebab cooker. The company are wonderfully helpful & their after sales service is faultless.I wish I was 20 yrs younger so that I could enjoy this delightful new method of impressing my fellow gourmets for a lot longer. Its the best thing I’ve ever bought in the big world of cookery.
At last I have had the time to tell you about the fantastic hog roast I served cooked to perfection on the gas barbeskew last weekend. This is the largest roast I have attempted and it turned out juicy, tender with superb crackling and everyone at the party was overwhelmed at how simple it was to cook. The hog took just about five and a half hours to cook on a medium high temperature then I took it off the spit removed the skin and wrapped the hog in foil to continue cooking.
Firstly I’m really pleased with my barbeskew. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and have had a total of 3 bbq’s on it, all of which have been a great success.
It’s seems a well engineered bit of kit. I personally found it fairly straight forward to assemble as well. I’ve also been impressed with the aftercare and the ability to buy spares and accessories. In fact I’ve just ordered another set of skewers!
Excellent, thank you very much!
May I let you know how extremely impressed I am with the company, the product, and most of all the customer service.
Half Grill for Charcoal/Gas BarbeSkew – £34.95
You will find that because the food rotates you can keep it on for longer, but also the cooking times can be quicker due to the fact that the heat from the metal skewers helps cook from the inside out as well as the outside in. The following is a rough guide of timings and we always advise to use a food temperature probe to measure the inside temperature of the food to ensure it is cooked all the way through. There is an excellent probe available on our accessories page: barbeskew.com/accessories
Happy New Year! I hope that all is going well for you and Ed with your amazing BarbeSkew. Buying ours has proven to be one of the best purchases we’ve ever made (aside from those menial essentials in life like a house and a car!)
The BarbeSkew makes a huge difference when we’re entertaining outdoors and although we only bought it in September, we still managed to get plenty of use out of it before we tucked it away for winter. We even ‘BBSkewed’ on Bonfire Night! Jacket Potatoes rotated are delicious when using it.
The BarbeSkew is great and its my preferred charcoal BBQ at the moment (of six that I own!).
Many thanks for the extra accessories for our BarbeSkew, they arrived Saturday morning and we made full use of them!
The poussins roasted perfectly on the top whilst the monkfish wrapped in bacon cooked on the lower skewers. We also re heated to perfection individual salmon quiches on that back shelf !!! Many thanks again for the excellent service.
Thanks for your e-mail and for your prompt attention.
We used our new BarbeSkew on Saturday and were delighted with the results. The food was well cooked yet succulent. We used a couple of the recipes supplied which were delicious. When we finished cooking there was still a considerable amount of charcoal left so we decided to cook a whole chicken and once again we had an excellent result. No doubt about it the BarbeSkew is probably the easiest and best way to BBQ.
hi there well as requested we are updating you on our first cooking experiences. lighting was no problem we used two bags as suggested.used all small skewers and one cage on top position when sm /ske were ready a second cage was added and both moved to lower positions.only problem is we did not have cages at 90 and they touched but realised this and moved one.no black and charred food so compliments all round. when both motors were used we forgot batteries so short delay while some were found again. second meal was roasted chicken again no problems other than me not reading instructions lesson now learned.bird took about 45 mins and was spot on.the general boys chat over my new toy was very positive so happy days!!
Many thanks for your phone call yesterday, it was appreciated, I hope you did well at the show you attended.
We had our bbq yesterday, despite the torrential downpours we endured! I wanted to let you know that our friends as well as us agreed that we had never eaten such lovely bbq’d food, I’m pleased we bought the charcoal one as we believe it does give the food a better flavour. You can guarantee we shall be recommending your product to anyone that will listen
Just to let you know that as a keen barbecue cook for many years, I am impressed an delighted with the Barbeskew II. Everything we have tried on it has been a huge success and I will strongly recommend your products to all my friends and family.
Thanks again for the help.
Hope the Great Yorkshire Show was a success for you. You probably don’t remember but we purchased the Barbeskew 2 off you on the Wednesday, Cynth I think told you we would be back and we were.
Our Barbeskew arrived on Friday late lunch (instead of Monday as arranged) but no problem as I had followed the progress on the carriers website and realised it was going to be delivered that day, I telephoned the carriers and they confirmed delivery between 12 and 2 that day.
By three thirty it was built and waiting to be fired up but as we had other commitments BS had to wait until Saturday.
Within 2.5 hours cooking time, I had done 6 fish kebabs (starters), one whole chicken and six sausages all cooked perfectly, All I can say is that it performed Brilliantly, thank you,
Next time I will add some soaked wood chippings and smoke the fish at the same time, this will extend the cooking time, but, that taste.
Once again, hope it was a successful show.
I have to say that the Barbeskew has been working overtime in the last couple of weeks due to various birthday and house warming celebrations and all of our guests have been very impressed by it. I have also enjoyed all the praise regarding the “beautifully cooked food” – luckily only you and I know that it is the barbeskew that makes this possible every time and not my culinary skills but I shall keep that firmly under my hat, for the time being anyway.
Thank you again for your continued excellent customer service and good luck with your up and coming exhibitions.
I purchased your Barbeskew11 at Ardingly on 9th. Assembled it after delivery on 13th [I did it myself and I’m a woman !!!]
Just shows how easy it is to assemble. Absolutely love it, had BBQ that evening, food was so much tastier than on our normal flat griddles,
hands free,no hassle & more time for wine and socialising.
Many thanks for your polite, prompt and efficient service, wishing you even more success.
Thanks for your prompt reply.
The chickens , ribs, burgers and sausages were cooked very well, tasted wonderful, and I could watch the snooker while they were in the Barbeskew! Just the job!
And – I have had a thought, and an experiment will follow – I am going to try different types of wood on the skewers to generate different smoke flavours! Cedar and Oak are going to be my first experiments! (Although I am not sure proper smoke could be generated at the heat I used to cook yesterdays food!) I will keep you posted via Facebook!
Thanks again! (I will let Duncan Bannatynes kids know how good it is (they attend my school) and maybe word will get back on what he has missed out on!)
Had a BBQ last night – the only problem is being hands free you tend to drink too much !! Otherwise – great !!!
This is just to let you know we bought the BBQ at just the right time, the weather is glorious and we are putting it to full use.
Thanks for the aftercare, we have been bragging about it to all our friends and recommending it to all.
Hope business continues to grow.
We have now used the BarbeSkew twice, once with the rotisserie and once with the kebab skewers. On both occasions the results were excellent, with a nice even colouring on the outside of the food and the inside fully cooked. We also cooked with the lid down, which gave everything a delicious smokey flavour, just how barbecued food should taste. Bertie the BarbeSkew Bear looked on enviously, but we reminded him he was only supposed to eat honey and marmite sandwiches. All we need now are lots more warm, sunny days to enjoy barbecues, could you possibly add these to your product range –I bet the Dragons Den would be impressed!
It was great meeting you at the show. Please see some pictures attached. You are a legend and the bbq you invented is trully amazing. I wish your business all the best. I think i left a feedback last year on the website, but i can do it again, no problem. I can check the market and the interest in bbq’s in Ukraine, if you are interested.
Thank you so much for your assistance today and the quick purchase, and special thanks to Carey for getting the Barbeskew to our flat.
I have immediately assembled it and it is now on the terrace fully set up, waiting for good weather next weekend to be tried for the first time!
I can’t tell you how pleased I am to have bought the Barbeskew, I have been looking for a product like this for years. There is no doubt that this will make you millionaires and I don’t know what happened on Dragons Den but I can tell you….. I’m in!
There is no hurry for the BBQ so next week would be fine.
Also i just have to mention how professional your service is compared to most companies we have to deal with. Keep up the good work.
I was looking for a BBQ with a rotisserie and my partner found your website. The BarbeSkew looked to be what I was looking for and I bought a gas one from you last year using it throughout the summer. Not just for weekend BBQs but also during the week to cook dinner.
The product is great, the service is excellent and the aftercare service is second to none. When I had an issue there was no quibble, Ed personally ensured I received the replacement part and called to make sure I was completely satisfied. Big companies could learn a lot from Eds level of service.
Thanks Ed I am extremely happy with my BarbeSkew and the level of service I have received and would recommend your product to everyone who is looking for a fantastic barbeque.
Thank you very much for sending two new cage skewers, they look excellent can’t wait to use them this is a big improvement on the old cage, it’s nice to see your business evolve, your customer care is second to none
Thank you for the recent newsletter and wish you all a very happy Christmas and fantastic New Year. I also wish to thank you for all the support I’ve received since purchasing a BarbeSkew & hope your company will always be successful.
We would just like to reiterate our delight with the Barbeskew II we purchased and with the tremendous customer service before, during and since the purchase. We are particularly grateful (and impressed!) by the fact that you are willing to drive 200 miles on a sunday in response to our request for technical assistance. What more could any customer wish for?
All the best to yourself, your colleagues and your business too!
We have had a few problems with an early design of the barbeskew, but we were absolutely amazed with the speed that Ed and Carey responded to our e mail, and actually made a visit to our home on the Isle of Wight to rectify them. I can honestly say that we have never witnesed such good customer service anywhere, ever. Nothing was too much trouble. Modifications were made free of charge, problems fixed, and advice on how to care for our barbeskew was given.
many thanks for asking
i am the bbq king in my area
all were very impressed with the way it cooked2 x pork joints to absolute perfection
best bbq we have ever had, lots more to follow
a brilliant piece of kit
thanks very much
I’m please to say, I used the Barbeskew for the first time today. I have to say, it was pleasurable exprience. It was indeed the easiest outdoor cooking I have ever taken part in.
I used the rotating cages for home made burgers, and shop bought sausages – all cooked through in less than 30 mintues and tasted supberb.
A great product – thank you.
I would just like to say what a fab bbq. I have loads of bbq’s in the past but got brought a barbeskew july 2009 and would never use anything else. it’s so easy to use and the food is the best bbq food me and my family have ever tasted. I would and will recommend this product to everyone. I would also like to say the customer service is second to none.
Hello to you all at Barbeskew.
My Wife purchased your product (Barbeskew II) against my wishes.
I do not like barbequed food (as it tends to be burnt in places), my Wife is always worried about undercooked meat.
So a barbeque was a ridiculous item for us (so I thought)
However we tried it out last Friday (11th. September 2009) the meat was cooked beautifully
I enjoyed my very first barbeque (we are both the wrong side of 60) and my Wife had no fears of undercooked meat.
We did however have a problem with the rotating baskets catching as they rotated.
Mr. Ed Wray rang us on Saturday 12th. to find out if we had ordered a transformor/adaptor that we had enquired about.
We had, and whilst he was on the phone we explained the problem with the rotating baskets.
He very kindly explained to me how to rectify this problem.
I have since done this and our Barbeskew II is running to perfection.
I wish it had been around years ago as I personally have missed out a great deal.
However back to the present, wel done to all at Barbeskew with your excellent product and even better after sales service I know you will go from strength to strength.
We dropped a BarbeSkew off at the Scottish TV Studios in Glasgow for the daily programme “The Hour” hosted by Michelle McManus and Joe McGann. They looked at a selection of barbecues with Australian chef Dingle.Which was their favourite barbecue? The BarbeSkew of course! They called it the “McDaddy of Barbecues”!
Dingle, the Australian Chef, classified it his favourite barbecue for technology and said it was the one he wanted to take home with him.
We’re pleased to announce we will be exhibiting at the Royal Highland Show again this year so come and meet us in late June and benefit from any special show deals which are on.
The BarbeSkew – The McDaddy of Barbecues!
Click on the picture or this link to watch on the STV Player, and see the barbeque review towards the end of part 2.
Two of the common problems with traditional grill barbecues are food coming off the barbecue burnt and food coming off the barbecue pink and raw in the middle. Whilst all the traditional bbq experts will state this never happens to them, the BarbeSkew barbecue is fool-proof – you get perfect barbecue food every time – GUARANTEED – without needing a university degree in barbecuing!
Because the food is constantly rotating, this means that the food on the kebab skewers and the food held in the cage skewers does not burn. In fact the rotisserie means the food cooks in its own juices leaving the meat tender and moist (have you tried the rotisserie chickens in the supermarkets?) It is then this moisture that absorbs the smoke giving the food the best ever barbecue flavour in the world.
The Charcoal BarbeSkew is our best selling barbecue as the majority of people require a barbecue for parties where they will be feeding family and friends. With the larger BarbeSkew, you can just use half of it to cook for your family, or use the full blown BarbeSkew to cook for up to 20 guests.
The charcoal BarbeSkew II is ideal for couples or for people that just have a very small balcony or small patio. It is also ideal where it will just be used for a small family of up to four.
There are two sets of skewers. The front set comprise 9 shorter kebab skewers, and these skewers fit into the skewer rack at the rear of the BarbeSkew BBQ, which is driven by a battery motor at the centre rear. The 9 kebab BBQ skewers are made to rotate together by a series of cogs driven by the centre cog. There are 7 kebab skewers on the BarbeSkew II.
No, the two BBQ cage skewers in their normal lowest position do not work at the same time as the nine kebab skewers as they clash, but one BBQ cage skewer can be used in the upper position of the side skewer rack at the same time as the nine kebab skewers. On the BarbeSkew II, there is no upper position on the side skewer rack, and so all three methods of cooking (small kebabs, BBQ cage skewers and traditional grill) can only be used independently.
Yes, a traditional Half grill with two wooden black resin handles which are dishwasher friendly is included with the Large Charcoal model and the Gas model. The BarbeSkew II comes with a full grill. However you can purchase additional half grills for each model. The half grill gives you more flexibility with grilling and using half the kebab skewers at the same time.
Because the food does not burn as on a traditional barbecue, the food tends to be left on the BarbeSkew BBQ longer meaning that the food is cooked thoroughly all the way through. Of course, you should still always check that the meat is cooked properly, before removing it from the BarbeSkew.
Choose charcoal if you want the real barbecue experience, with better taste and real flames – 70% of the UK population prefer charcoal.
Not nowadays. Simply place two charcoal lighter bags (we recommend “Big K”) – or just one for the BarbeSkew II in the charcoal tray, light the bag, leave the lid open, and then come back in 15 minutes and it’s ready to use.
The charcoal tray raises and lowers through the handle on the right hand side of the Charcoal BarbeSkew BBQ. When the coals have just been lit and they are at their hottest, the charcoal tray can be lowered so that the heat intensity from the charcoal does not burn the food. Essentially, the tray mechanism allows you to control the heat intensity of the Charcoal BarbeSkew BBQ in the same way you would control the heat intensity on the Gas BarbeSkew BBQ by turning the gas control knobs.
No. Because of the size limitations of the BarbeSkew II, the charcoal tray simply sits on the base of the body. However since everything rotates, the food does not burn. However the charcoal tray does lift out meaning it can be cleaned easily – we recommend that you line the charcoal tray with silver foil prior to lighting the charcoal as this makes it simple to clean the next day.
Yes you can with the two larger models (Charcoal & Gas), as they come with a half grill. However you can’t with the BarbeSkew II as it comes with a full sized grill. But you can purchase a half grill for it separately online. See accessories page.
The batteries have been timed to last for 50 hours, using 2 x D type batteries. So each motor will run independently for 50 hours, which if a barbecue lasts for 2 hours, will run for 25 barbecues. However if you use a high quality battery like Duracell, we have found the batteries last much longer – between 80 to 100 hours.
|Model||Box Size||Weight||Assembly Time|
|Charcoal BarbeSkew||94cm x 57cm x 67cm||43kg||Just under 2 hours|
|Gas BarbeSkew||94cm x 66cm x 67cm||50kg||Just over 2 hours|
|BarbeSkew II||69cm x 48cm x 43cm||23kg||Around 30 minutes|
Yes but this is based on our availability during our busy season. The assembly charge is £100 for locations 100 miles from Brighton. There is a surcharge based on the transport cost for other areas of the UK. We do encourage you to build your own BarbeSkew BBQ – the instructions are very clear, but if due to disability or some other reason you would like us to build it, we will be very happy to do this for you.
Yes. Every single item on your BarbeSkew BBQ is available to purchase, and this can be done from the accessories page. There are also a full range of accessories including covers and extra skewer sets.
There are 3 burners on the Gas BarbeSkew BBQ delivering 7000 BTU X 3 = 21000 BTU (British Thermal Units). This is not as high as some of the traditional gas barbecue BTU’s, but our research has shown us that a smaller BTU is required for rotating BBQ skewers.
Yes there is a standard one year warranty which is increased free-of-charge to a ‘Bronze’ two year warranty when you register your details. Please note, this warranty does not cover faults which are the result of improper use of the BarbeSkew BBQ. These are not considered as manufacturing faults.
The lid coating is porcelain enamel which is baked on at 870 degrees centigrade and it is this enamel infused with glass finish that make it the toughest finish available for a barbecue lid and to leave it looking good even after multiple uses.
Stainless Steel looks attractive, but needs an inner lining lid protection as the stainless steel tarnishes under heat. So it’s a poor material to use on a barbecue, but it looks nice. So the answer here is it looks pretty but it’s not the best lid material.
We have recently improved the closing mechanism on the cage skewers on the BarbeSkew – they used to use 2 small clips to keep the lid of the cage closed, however we have now moved over to using one large bulldog clip in the middle of the cage skewer. This new single clip and the stronger hinges have had excellent feedback to date.
Yes. All accessories have black resin handles and can go into the dishwasher. If you don’t have a dishwasher then kebab skewers are easy to clean anyway. All you need is hot soapy water and an abrasive washing up sponge. Please note you should never use wire wool as this is too abrasive and could damage the chrome plating.
Whilst the BarbeSkew BBQ’s were not designed as a “Hog Roast”, it is possible to barbecue a small suckling pig. The Charcoal BarbeSkew would require the charcoal tray to be lowered to the lowest level and if using the lighter bags, you would need to replenish the charcoal during cooking (for longer cooking times, briquettes will stay hotter for much longer).
If you have the larger models (Charcoal & Gas), then all the accessories (apart from the cages), can NOW be placed in the dishwasher as all the handles are made of black resin and are dishwasher friendly. However the cages for the larger models are too long for the dishwasher, so use a 80cm gardening trough from any D.I.Y. store or garden centre.
There are 2 types of Gas Barbecue. The first type uses LAVA ROCKS, and the second type uses FLAVOURISERS. With lava rocks, the fat from the food drips onto the rocks and often catches fire meaning you have to constantly move the food away from the flames to stop the food from burning.
A useful tip is to line the base of the Gas BarbeSkew with silver foil tapered up at the edges. This will catch any fat and grease that drips to the bottom before it reaches the fat collection tray.
The BarbeSkew BBQ is delivered flat-packed by XDP, a home delivery specialist. You can choose the date for delivery, and then the delivery can take place any time between 8am and 6pm that day, Monday to Friday. If you wish to have a Saturday delivery then there will be an additional charge.
Yes you can use two sets of clamps, one for each chicken – a spare set of two can be bought through the accessories page.
Yes, we deliver to anywhere in Europe and can provide you with a competitive quote. Please phone us or send us an email stating the model and destination.
Tips for those wanting to succeed in
Entrepreneur Ed Wray on succeeding in the den
- Entertainment: Remember the programme makers are not going to give air-time to a “dull as dishwater” presentation. They’ll give the most entertaining pitches the most air-time. For BarbeSkew, I should have taken two girls on stage, dressed one up as a sausage and one as a beef-burger and had them trying to throw themselves into a bread-bun in order to cause as much anarchy on stage as possible! Remember Levi Roots – he was selling chilli sauce but came on stage singing with his guitar – and his pitch was a brilliant success!
- Entertainment: Yes entertainment again – Do they want the perfect pitch? No!!! Remember the lady that had a nervous giggle all the way through? Rubbish pitch but fantastic TV! Think of something that will entertain the masses. Make it unique; make people’s jaws’ drop; make it stand out from the crowd.
- Entertainment: Yes entertainment again just to really make the point! Give the audience something to remember. Call Deborah “Debbie” – she hates it. Do it once and it’s a slip up – do it 5 times and you’ll be in the final edit calling her “Debbie” 5 times with her gradually losing the plot! Or even better do like Trigger does on Only Fools and Horses calling Rodney “Dave” – keep on calling Hilary “Hilda” or Duncan “Gordon” and after the fifth time you’re a Dragons’ Den superstar!
- The figures. It’s like selling anything. All the Dragons want is the best deal ever. The biggest proportion of your business for the smallest outlay of money. So give it to them. Say you need £50k for 25% of your business. It’s all based on getting an offer – getting the offer gives you 10 minutes of air-time.
- Get the offer – but don’t take the money! Read Felix Dennis’s book on “How to Get Rich”. If you want to be rich then ownership of your business isn’t the important thing – it’s the ONLY thing. So if the Dragons offer you money, say “Yes” to get your 10 minutes on TV and then don’t sign any of the “Due Diligence” papers when they arrive. I can assure you that if the Dragons have said yes, then it will not be a difficult process to find a lender offering you a much better deal where you don’t lose any equity and can pay off the loan amount over an agreed period of time without losing any ownership of your business.
Entrepreneur Ed Wray on his Time in
It is part of every entrepreneurs dream to have their product or service featured on Dragons’ Den. With BBC audiences of around five million and endless repeats on Dave, the programme offers an instant marketing solution for new businesses with the opportunity of a cash injection and business advice from the experienced Dragons themselves.
Ed Wray, designer of the BarbeSkew, the most innovative BBQ on the market, started his company in 2007 and was featured on Dragons’ Den in 2008 and on Dragons on Tour in 2009. Ed was spotted by the Dragons’ Den production team when he was talking at the British Library about how he set up his business in early 2008. The production team chased Ed and asked him to post his application form to a “special email address” where it would get “priority consideration”.
What followed was a one hour phone interview followed by practice pitches at the BBC TV Centre and ultimately the final invite to Pinewood Studios for the actual filming. Around 10 contestants are invited to a days filming and every effort is made to keep the contestants well away from the Dragons so no contact is made before the show. Filming of each of the 10 contestants climbing a set of (fake) stairs take place and then each contestant waits for their turn to be called.
It quickly becomes apparent that some contestants have been through the whole process before and have waited in the Green Room all day without being called due to time running out. Small bite size filming takes place whilst waiting providing the BBC with clips for their website.
Finally you get called. You walk through the maze of Pinewood Studios (trying to spot James Bond) and then wait at the bottom of the stairs with your heart pounding …..
It was also interesting to hear that Gino said it would cook the food the best because of the rotisserie.
We were the only British company – Landmann is German, Cadac is South African, Outback is Chinese owned and ProBBQ is American.
One of our customers said “I’m surprised they marked it down a sausage because of the assembly ….. I really enjoyed putting it together”. And don’t forget of course we’re always available to help you through the assembly on the phone although the quality of the written instructions is excellent.
